Side effects

Like any prescription medication, some patients will experience side effects while taking Lybrel. If you experience a side effect, it is reccomended that you contact your health care professional immediately.

Unscheduled Bleeding and Spotting

Clinical trials found that bleeding or spotting occured most often during the first seven pill packs of Lybrel use, and tends to decrease with each subsequent pill pack. In the study, 18% of women discontinued use due to the unscheduled bleeding or spotting.

Contact Lenses

It is possible to experience a change in vision or the inability to wear contact lenses. If this happens, you should contact your health care professional immediately.

Fluid Tetention

Any oral contraceptive could cause fluid retention. This is most often associated with swelling of the fingers or ankles, and could also raise your blood pressure.

Melasma

Melasma is a spotty darkening of the skin, and happens most often in the face.

Other Side Effects

Some other side effects you may experience while taking Lybrel include breat tenderness, change in appetite, headache, nervousness, depression, dizziness, loss of scalp hair, rash, vaginal infections, inflammation of the pancreas, and allergic reactions.
